The Machine
The Village Builder Soil Block Machine is, by far, the most advanced and reliable soil block machine in the building market. Engineering quality and rugged design have transformed The Village Builder into one of the most dependable and versatile machines of its kind. It can easily be transported to almost any part of the world and can immediately be put into production with little or no field preparation, and with only a few people in the start up crew.
AECT Village Builder Compressed Soil Block Machine
The Village Builder is a manually or automated (option) hydraulic ram, pressed earth (soil) - block making machine. The machine has a depth rod in the machine that allows for setting of the desired block thickness to be varied from 2.0 to 4.5 inches. The Village Builder is very light and can be hauled behind a farm tractor or just about any type of vehicle with a ball hitch. It can also be moved by manpower at a site. The machine weights 1,100 pounds (500 Kilograms) and can be pulled on the Highway at 60 MPH. The Village Builder is a single purpose, light piece of machinery. The Village Builder has a 5 to 7 block hopper capacity which can be loaded with shovels or pails/buckets. AECT provides a limited workmanship and craftsmanship warranty and warranties are also issued by specific machine component suppliers, as applicable. A 5 foot removable gravity roller conveyer is included for convenience in block handling.

Nominal Block Production: Approximately 210-230 blocks per hour for the manual operated machine. Approximately 300 blocks per hour for the automated model.
Blocks can be used to produce (1) full load bearing walls or (2) to produce veneers on frame buildings to provide earthen construction architectural effects and provide greatly improved insulation for buildings or (3) the blocks can be used as filler blocks in concrete/steel frame building construction.
Strong load bearing blocks are produced with minimal soil preparation.
Blocks can be produced, placed on pallets, stored and placed into a wall months after the blocks were produced to allow for flexible construction schedules.
Rugged wheeled machine design allows machines to be taken to remote sites and produce the blocks at the construction site. This greatly reduces block handling costs.

The soil blocks produced from this machine are typically smaller than traditional adobe blocks ( 10X14 x 4 inches) making the blocks easier to carry by workmen and easier to handle and place in the wall.

Block Dimensions, Weight and Slurry Bonding: Typically the blocks are 5.5 inches (14 cm) wide by 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 2.0 to 4.5 inches (5.0cm to 11.5 cm) thick. Each block weights between 9-18 pounds (4.1 Kg to 8.1 Kg) depending on the soil and block thickness. Blocks are bonded together using the wet thin soil slurry or other conventional methods. The soil slurry is made with only water and screened soil. Blocks can also be placed in the wa11 using the traditional thick mud mortar method.
The machine can also be custom manufactured to produce blocks that are 6.0 inches (15.25 cm) by 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 2.0 to 4.5 inches (5.0 cm to 11.5 cm) thick.
The machine can also he custom manufactured to produce blocks that are 6-0 inches (15-25 cm) by 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 2.0 to 4.5 inches (5.0 cm to 11.5 cm) thick.
Soils Required for the Village Builder Machine to make good Strong block: The Village Builder uses a wide variety of soils with prepared natural soil moistures in the range of 4-12 percent. Typically the machine requires soil with a combined clay (15-20 percent) and silt (Powder) content of approximately 25-40 percent (by volume ) and a sharp sand content of approximately 40-70 percent (by volume). The machine does not require any aggregate (rocks) to make a strong soil block for most applications. The block Compressive Strength range from 600 p.s.i. (42 Kg/cm2) to 1,200 p.s.i. (70 Kg/cm2) depending on the soil. This machine operates at less pressure placed on the block during block production and thus this machine can work across a wetter soil range than the large AECT machine.
The Village Builder is manufactured by AECT at the AECT factory in San Antonio, Texas under an exclusive, worldwide, manufacturing and marketing licensing agreement with the Patent holder. AECT provides training for in machine operation, maintenance, and repair, soil selection and soil preparation / testing.
